Educator Consultant/ Academic Specialist

Special Interests & Certifications:  Orton Gillingham, Reading Foundations and Letterland

McCrea Smith earned her undergraduate degree in Psychology from North Carolina State University in 2011. She then went on to receive her Masters in Teaching at Meredith College in 2012. She taught Kindergarten for 10 years; two years in Wake County and eight years in Charlotte.

She has worked in a variety of settings that include title 1 schools, charter schools, and most recently an LI/TD public magnet school. She has been trained and/or certified in Orton Gillingham, Reading Foundations, and LetterLand. Over the last decade, McCrea has worked with students of many ages and abilities.

She has a passion for not only teaching children how to read, but also educating parents and teachers on ways to support their child at home and school. Although she misses the magic of kindergarten, she knows her joy of teaching literacy can continue to impact others. She believes a personalized one on one approach creates opportunities for children to thrive and feel successful. As a student who struggled from an early age at school, she never imagined she could have this career. If it was not for a few special people in her educational journey, she would not be where she is today.

McCrea is a native Charlottean. After five years of school and two years working in Raleigh, she and her husband moved back to be closer to their families. In her spare time she enjoys reading, spending time with friends and family, and raising her two young kids.
