Ally dearstyne

Special Interests & Certifications:  ASHA certified, Alternative & Augmentative Communication (AAC), Autism, Early Intervention, Speech-Sound Disorders, Apraxia of Speech, Language Delay and Disorders. 

Ally earned her Bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Appalachian State University in 2016, followed by her Masters of Science in Speech-Language Pathology From East Tennessee State University in 2018. Ally spent her first year as an SLP in the NC school system, but has been serving children in clinic/community-based settings (homes, daycares, schools) since 2019. 

 

Ally has significant experience working with children from ages 18 months - late teenage years with a variety of developmental disabilities and diagnoses that affect speech and language development. She has extensive experience evaluating, purchasing, and implementing a variety of forms of AAC and Speech-Generating Devices, such as: LAMP, TD Snap, and Proloquo2Go. In addition, Ally has experience treating a variety of speech and language disorders/delays, Apraxia of Speech, and early literacy skills (phonological awareness). Ally is passionate about individualized approaches to helping children and their families learn skills to best communicate and connect with others. You can usually find Ally being silly and playful with kiddos during sessions!  

Ally is a North Carolina native that grew up in the Triangle, then relocated to Charlotte in 2019 when she married her husband, Sam. Outside of work, Ally loves to spend time with her friends, family, two cats, and church community. Her hobbies include reading, exercising, and watching the UNC Tarheels and Carolina Hurricanes.
